Fan Club Moss (also known as Running Cedar for its similar appearance) is one of our favourites here at Moss And Stone Gardens because of it’s unique aesthetics. It is also a favourite amongst landscapers and moss enthusiasts for it’s many environmental benefits.
This type of moss is used as ground covering, preventing the growth of unwanted weeds in your flower beds. Like other shaded moss species, it thrives in humid, moist areas with little sunlight. However, if you live in a drier climate, your moss will grow back and regenerate even if it dries out for part of the year.
Fan Club Moss in particular is an eco-warrior moss as it absorbs environmental toxins and pollutants and does not need chemical fertilisers or growth additives. All it needs is a natural water source to thrive.
Fan Club Moss grows best in shaded gardens with well-drained, acidic soil. Expect a deep Evergreen colour with medium to light green tips. It’s height can reach between 5 to 10 inches tall at peak maturity.
