Our Live Rock Cap Moss (Dicranum scoparium), also commonly known as Mood Moss, is popular in terrariums and vivariums. Its upright clump-forming growth pattern adds dramatic height and texture. In nature, it is often found growing on rocks or logs and thrives in humid environments. This moss is shipped live and clean and can be planted straight after arrival.

Growth Form: Upright and clump-forming. This moss grows in thick tufts or mounds, characterized by vertical, slightly curved shoots.

Handling Instructions

Shipped Live: We harvest and ship our mosses the same day, so they arrive alive and can be planted directly into your terrarium/vivarium.
Storage: If you can not plant the moss after arrival, keep it in a breathable container in a cool, shaded location. Mist it daily to maintain hydration and keep it out of direct sunlight.
Usage: Plant the moss on a moist, stable substrate, such as wood or stone. This moss is well-suited for horizontal or sloped surfaces. Only wet or submerged areas should be avoided.

Ecological and Ethical Harvesting

As with all our mosses, our Dicranum scoparium is sustainably hand-harvested. This means that we only harvest a small portion of a site to allow regrowth within 6 months. We ensure that our ecological impact is minimal by working in harmony with nature, rather than against it.
