Moss Garden Case Studies
Documented client projects
Species plans, quantities, placement logic and honest results — from professional landscape collaborations to a first-timer’s woodland garden. Every project here ran on the same process we offer every customer: match the species to the site, then install for contact and moisture.
Beyond the Write-Ups: The Work at Scale
The case studies on this page are the documented tip of a much larger body of work. In the tracked period alone, our moss went into projects for 530 professional and institutional buyers — over $340,000 in trade projects supplied — from single-garden landscape designs to standing wholesale programs.

Universities, botanical gardens, art foundations, design-build firms and working moss artists buy from the same catalog on this site — the difference is only scale. Projects become case studies here once they are documented and cleared for publication; many of the firms behind these numbers are listed in the installer directory, and trade projects run through the wholesale program.
Featured: From Failed Monoculture to Site-Responsive Moss Garden
With Moody Graham · Private residence, Virginia
A landscape architecture team came to us after a one-species moss planting failed. The consultation mapped the site zone by zone — sunny banks, shaded paths, open groundcover, a water feature — and assigned a species to each condition instead of asking one moss to do everything. Reinstalled November 2025; professionally photographed that fall; the collaboration has continued since.

The Pattern Behind Every Project
STEP 1
Read the site
Light, moisture, surface and slope decide everything. Where will moss grow is the checklist every study above started from.
STEP 2
Match the species
No species does everything — the failed monoculture above proves it. Compare all species by condition and role.
STEP 3
Install for contact
Press tight to the substrate, mist rather than soak, let it dry between. How to grow moss covers the method.
What Every Case Study Documents
Project name and location · client, firm and collaborators · the original goal or problem · species, products and quantities · installation date · performance at follow-up · the client’s own words · photographer credit.
