We are the main live moss supplier in the United States, a moss nursery and supplier based in Pennsylvania rather than a reseller, so wholesale moss ships direct from us and never sits in a warehouse. Our experimental moss nursery is being scaled year on year, though everything shipping today is responsibly sourced. True moss nurseries are rare on the ground, which is why the practical supplier is one that ships: we ship nationwide and the distance makes no difference to the price. Buying regularly
You resell, install or build with moss through the year. This is the one that needs an account. You get your own price list, box sizes suited to how you work, and a named contact.
Minimum $250 per order. Brochure sent once the account is open. Below that, just order from the shop. There is no minimum there and the volume pricing is the same.
Whichever route you are on, it is the same moss, cut to order and shipped fresh. The trade accounts we hold are with landscapers, designers, garden centers, green wall installers, terrarium builders, event designers, reptile stores and botanical product makers, but you do not need to be any of those to order in quantity.

What You Need, in Order
Do not improve the soil. Moss has no roots and takes nothing from the ground, so fertility only feeds whatever competes with it. Clear the area, remove the competitors, and compact it. Less substrate, not more.
Specifying from a drawing? Check the trees that are actually on site, not the canopy the plan assumes. A landscape drawn for mature shade will fail in year one if the trees are young, because immature trees do not cast the shade the plan is counting on. Where the canopy is not there yet, specify for the light the ground gets today.

Volume Pricing
For large areas, a moss milkshake covers ground at the lowest cost per square foot. Prices in the shop already fall as the quantity rises, so bulk sheet moss works out far cheaper a foot than a single square. On larger orders a further discount comes off those prices. The discount is worked out on the order total, so a project combining sheet moss for the shade and star moss for the wet ground counts as one order. Tell us the square footage and the site conditions and we will price it and hold the quote.
Lead Times on a Project
We pause shipping above 90 degrees Fahrenheit, usually for a day or two. Moss cooks in a hot truck and we would rather hold an order than send it into a heatwave. If you are working to a fixed install date in high summer, tell us and we will build that into the schedule.
Moss is cut to order and we will not hold it once it is cut, so a large job is scheduled rather than queued.

Spring and early summer are the busiest weeks of the year. If you are working to a fixed date in that period, tell us as early as you can and we will work backwards from it and confirm before you commit.

Hypnum imponens
Large scale groundcover, shade lawns, woodland restoration.

Order 90 to 95 percent of the area for immediate cover. Sections half an inch apart knit closed in six to twelve months. The most foot traffic tolerant species we carry, and sun bleached moss takes a year or more to recover, so specify it out of direct sun.
Hypnum cupressiforme
Large scale groundcover with a rougher, less even face than Sheet.

Shares its specification with Sheet Moss and the two are routinely confused with each other. Choose it where a uniform sheet would look too manicured. It handles foot traffic once established, and orders of 90 to 95 percent of the area give immediate cover.
Bryum caespiticium
Pathway joints, terraces, urban greening.

Grafts and puts out new growth in two to four weeks. Hydrate gently before handling or the cushions crumble. A brief reddish color in some seasons is normal. Small pieces make it labor intensive across a large area, so it is specified for joints and detail rather than open ground.
Leucobryum glaucum
Sculptural colonies, accents, steep slopes.

Pale minty or white when dry, deep green when moist. That color change is a moisture reading, not stress. A good weed suppressant and it holds on steep ground.
Aulacomnium
Bog gardens, rain gardens, pooling areas. A hydrology indicator.

Specify it where water sits. Yellows in too much direct sun and goes electric green in shade. Thicker and taller than the other sun mosses, which suits patio stones that sit high.
Dicranum scoparium
Boulder accents, woodland sculpture, vertical elements.

Will tan in too much sun. Must dry between waterings. Transplants easily and the thick tufts suppress weeds.
Thuidium delicatulum

Will not tolerate drought. Curls and feels crusty when dry, lace-like when moist. Airier than sheet moss, so planting pushes through it.
Polytrichum commune
Erosion control, slopes, streambanks, path edges.

Extremely drought and freeze tolerant, and the species we specify where a slope has to hold. One of the tallest at up to 20cm, so shallow depressions help seat the colonies.
Anomodon attenuatus
Tree skirts, boulder blanket, rock gardens.

Install directly onto bark or stone, not soil. Use Moss Tac for vertical placements. It forms the skirt around mature oaks and cloaks boulders, a job no groundcover moss does.
Racomitrium canescens
Stone walls, sun exposed hardscape, green roofs, Japanese gardens.

Cultivated on geotextile backing, so it arrives as an even mat and cuts to any shape. Keep the backing intact. New shoots in three to four weeks. Does not tolerate waterlogging.
Rhytidiadelphus squarrosus
Wet site planting, bioswale, stream margin.

One of the biggest mosses, springy and fluffy. On a site that is not consistently wet, give it hardscape to creep over. Not a lawn species.

Bulk Preserved Moss for Interiors and Retail
Alongside live moss we supply preserved moss in bulk | sheet, cushion, rock cap, reindeer and Spanish. Preserved moss needs no water, soil or light, which makes it the right specification for interiors, retail fixtures, hospitality and any display that has to hold its color for months rather than weeks.
Preserved moss wholesale and dried moss bulk are quoted per project, because on volume work tone consistency across batches matters more than square footage. Tell us the area and the finish you need.
For commercial moss wall work, preserved moss wall tiles come in four greens and combine to any size, so a wall is a question of tile count and tone mix.

Yes. Our live moss ships fresh and can be planted immediately on delivery. It may arrive dry and dormant, which is normal and not damage: color and texture return within minutes of misting. Only tan, brittle moss is a concern.

Most landscaping species are shade plants. Sheet, Carpet, Fern, Tree Apron, Haircap and Spoon Leaved between them cover deep woodland through to the root-filled ground under mature trees.
Two species genuinely tolerate open, dry, exposed ground: Full Sun Moss (Racomitrium) and Sun Moss (Bryum). Star Moss also tolerates sun, but only where the ground stays wet, such as rain gardens, bog edges and pooling areas, so it is not a substitute for the other two on a dry site. Specifying a shade species for a sunny site, or a wet-site species for a dry one, is the most common reason a large installation fails in its first summer.
Sheet moss is our most-ordered landscaping line and is quoted by the square foot. Carpet, fern and tree apron are available on the same terms, live or preserved.
